The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education collects a variety of data from schools and districts in the state. Much of the information collected is published in the School and District Profiles. A "profile" is a snapshot of the data for a specific school or district. Users can also find school and district directories.

In addition to individual profiles and directories, users can also view and download statewide data reports. The Massachusetts Education-to-Career Research and Data Hub publishes many of the statewide reports as datasets here in the public data portal. This report provides the number and percentage of Massachusetts public high school graduates who completed the MassCore curriculum each year since 2009.

MassCore is a state-recommended program of study intended to align high school coursework with college and workforce expectations. The program of studies includes the successful completion of four units of English, four units of mathematics, three units of a lab-based science, three units of history, two units of the same world language, one unit of the arts, and five additional "core" courses. A computer science course that includes rigorous mathematical or scientific concepts and aligns with the 2016 Digital Literacy and Computer Science Framework can substitute for either a mathematics course or a laboratory science course. MassCore completion rates are not reported for any student group where the number graduated is less than 6.

This dataset provides the number and percentage Massachusetts public high school students who dropped out of high school since 2008. It also includes the percentage of dropouts by grade.

Dropout rate is calculated as the percentage of students in a given grade who dropped out of school between July 1 and June 30 prior to the listed year and who did not return to school by the following October 1. Dropouts are defined as students who leave school prior to graduation for reasons other than transfer to another school. Dropout rates are not reported for any student group where the number of students is less than 6.

Economically Disadvantaged was used 2015-2021. Low Income was used prior to 2015, and a different version of Low Income has been used since 2022. Please see the DESE Researcher's Guide for more information.

Dropout Report

This dataset contains the total annual unduplicated enrollment headcount and percentages by race and gender for undergraduate and graduate students at public community colleges and state universities in Massachusetts since 2014.

Annual enrollment refers to a 12 month enrollment period over one fiscal year (July 1 through June 30).

This report presents data and information about student preparedness for workforce and post-graduate success in Massachusetts, including high school enrollment, graduation, coursework, participation in Designated High School College and Career Pathways (After Dark, Career Connections, Career Technical Education, Early College, and Innovation Career Pathways), college attendance and persistence, and wages.

Count of certificates and degrees conferred by institution, award type, race, and gender.

- A fiscal year (FY) is 12-month period beginning July 1 and ending June 30. Because a fiscal year straddles two different calendar years, the calendar year and fiscal year will not always match. For example, FY 2025 runs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.
